Survey Highlights: Self-Service Shopping Trends

Self-service has become the go-to option for making purchases across the U.S. With Gen Z, Millennials, and Gen X leading the way, Baby Boomers are also embracing this trend. According to a recent survey conducted by PlayUSA, an online hub for legal gambling news, 1,000 Americans were polled about all types of purchases in addition to legalized gambling.

Here’s a snapshot of the survey’s findings:

– 84% of Americans enjoy using self-service kiosks, with 66% favoring them over manned checkouts.

– 84% of Gen Z and 76% of Millennials said they prefer using tech-based checkouts, as did 57% of Gen X and 46% of Baby Boomers.

– The reasons for this preference vary: 71% cited faster checkout times, while 60% appreciated the avoidance of human interaction. Notably, 14% would opt for a self-service kiosk even if a manned checkout was available with no queue.

– 20% of respondents expressed willingness to continue using mobile apps for curbside pickup despite potential added fees.

– 61% of self-described “introverts” (comprising 66% of all respondents) noted that technology has lessened their social anxiety, with 89% finding it helpful in navigating daily life.
